Photo Keepers finds the best shot of every moment in a folder of photos, right on your Mac.

Getting started

Choose File > Open Folder, or drop a folder on the window. Keepers looks at every photo, groups near-identical shots, and suggests a pick in each group. Use the arrow keys to move, P to pick, X to reject and A to mark an alternate. When you are happy, use the share button in the toolbar to copy your picks to a folder or add them to Photos.

Which photos does it read?

JPEG, HEIC from iPhone, and raw files from Canon (CR2, CR3), Nikon (NEF), Sony (ARW), Fujifilm (RAF), Panasonic (RW2), OM System and Olympus (ORF), and DNG, including Apple ProRAW. Photos in subfolders are included, which suits a memory card. You can turn that off in Settings.

Will it change or delete my photos?

No. Keepers never modifies or deletes a photo. Your decisions are saved in a small file called Keepers.json inside the folder, so they travel with it. Copying picks makes new copies; adding to Photos lets Photos keep its own copy.

Free version and Keepers Unlimited

Every feature works on the first 300 photos of any folder. Keepers Unlimited is a one-time purchase that lifts the limit for every folder, on every Mac signed into the same Apple Account. There is no subscription. On a new Mac, choose Keepers > Restore Purchase.

Adding picks to Photos

The first time, macOS asks whether Keepers may add photos. Keepers asks only to add, so it cannot see anything already in your library. If you said no, turn it on in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos. If iCloud Photos is on, added photos sync like any other.

Lightroom and Bridge

File > Export XMP Sidecars writes a rating, label and keywords next to each raw file, which Lightroom Classic and Bridge read on import. They ignore sidecars for JPEG, HEIC and DNG, which keep their metadata inside the file.

Group names and people

Group names like “Swans on the canal” come from Apple Intelligence on your Mac. If it is turned off or unavailable, groups are named by time. Recurring people are found on your Mac too; you can name them, and the names are stored in Keepers.json.
